Engine Dynamometer Control System
The Challenge: To create a cost effective
dynamometer test system that encompasses comprehensive
control, test and data acquisition functions.
The Solution: V I Engineering developed
a system with pendant data entry, graphical displays and
analysis, robotic accelerator control, exhaust gas analyzer
and opacity meter, safety procedures and alarm limits
checking. The LabVIEW based application, working with
data acquisition (DAQ) boards, communicates with an existing
dynamometer controller through analog and digital inputs
and outputs. The application controls a pendant, a gas
analyzer and an opacity meter through serial communication.
Customer Benefits: A dynamometer with
comprehensive control, test & data acquisition functions
was developed that can be a valuable tool for repair shops,
tune-up centers and automotive dealers. A dynamometer
allows vehicles to be
tested and diagnosed in the shop, under real driving
conditions. The application we created in conjunction
with our customer's hardware allowed us to create a diagnostic
system that significantly out performed the legacy engine
diagnostic system.
